- Select Chase credit card holders can now earn up to $15 in monthly credits toward Instacart purchases.
- This is in addition to previously announced free Instacart+ memberships on Chase Sapphire, Freedom, and Slate cards.
- These new credits are a good way to save a little money if you use Instacart anyway.
- Read Insider’s guide to the best rewards credit cards.
Chase’s recent launch of the Instacart Mastercard® is good news for folks who shop with Instacart frequently. The first 10,000 cardholders approved before 8/4/22 will get a $200 Instacart gift card, plus one free year of Instacart+ membership (those approved after the first 10,000 receive $100 and one free year of Instacart+). That’s not a bad bonus for a no-annual-fee card.
However, unless you’re a regular customer, opening the Chase Instacart credit card might not make sense since its highest cash-back rate (5%) is reserved for Instacart purchases. But now, if you have certain other Chase credit cards, you can activate a free Instacart+ membership and receive statement credits toward Instacart purchases for a limited time.
Starting August 1, 2022, Sapphire, Freedom, and Slate cardholders get up to $15 in monthly credit toward Instacart purchases, depending on their card. This is in addition to previously announced free Instacart+ memberships on the same cards for up to one year.
Here’s what to know about these new Chase Instacart credits, and how to enroll if you want to use the benefit.
We’re focused here on the rewards and perks that come with each card. These cards won’t be worth it if you’re paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it’s important to pay your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only spend what you can afford to pay.

As you might expect, these new Instacart benefits are more generous on Chase cards that charge an annual fee. But even if you have a no-annual-fee card like the popular Chase Freedom Flex℠ or Chase Freedom Unlimited®, you can still take advantage. Enrollment is required by July 31, 2024, and you can do so on Chase’s Instacart site.
Instacart+ membership can save you a lot of money if you order from Instacart often. Usually, this service costs $99 per year (or $9.99 per month), and it comes with free delivery on orders over $35 and reduced service fees.
Here’s what you’ll receive with each card:
The credits on the Chase Sapphire Reserve® are particularly generous, at up to $15 per month. If you maximize this benefit, you can save up to $180 per year (not counting the $99 value from the Instacart+ membership). That can go a long way to helping offset the card’s $550 annual fee.
Otherwise, you’re looking at a maximum value of $60 per year with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card ($95 annual fee) or $40 per year with the no-annual-fee Freedom cards. That may not seem like much, and probably isn’t a good enough reason to start using Instacart — but if you’re already an Instacart user, it’s a nice little savings.
How to activate the Chase Instacart benefits
Cardholders must enroll for their free Instacart+ membership and statement credits toward Instacart purchases; it’s not automatic.
To activate, add your card details to your Instacart account; the enrollment option should populate once you do so.

Also, be sure to set a calendar reminder to cancel prior to the expiration date of your free Instacart+ membership. If you don’t intend to keep using it and forget to cancel, your card will be charged for another full year of membership at the current rate.
To take advantage of the statement credit, you’ll have to use your qualifying Chase card for your Instacart purchase. If you have multiple cards on their Instacart account, you’ll want to make sure you select the correct card before the transaction goes through, otherwise, you won’t get the credit.
